Systematic analysis of phosphoproteins regulated by abscisic acid.

Reversible protein phosphorylation plays a central role in mediating ABA-regulated physiological responses. A number of protein kinases and phosphatases implicated in ABA signaling have been identified through molecular, biochemical, or genetic studies. However, the target proteins of these kinases and phosphatases are still largely unknown. To analyze phosphoproteins regulated by abscisic acid, proteins from rice leaves treated with abscisic acid were separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and probed with phosphoamino acid-specific antibodies, and identified by tandem mass spectrometry. Six phosphoproteins differentially regulated by abscisic acid were identified. Possible role of these phosphoproteins in abscisic acid signaling will be discussed.
