Calumet Wetlands.

We will visit three sites of conseravtion interest in the Calumet region (Southeast Chicago/suburbs): Powderhorn Marsh, Hegewisch Marsh, and Beaubien Woods to see wetlands communities in several stages of restoration. Participants would expect to see a range from rich and diverse to severely degraded. In addition to the plant communities we will see a variety of fungi, birds, herps and invertebrates and learn about the educational programs of Field Museum. A bus tour will give an overview of the unique landuse history that includes large industry and solid waste disposal facilities.Binoculars, boots and hand lenses are recommended as well as insect repellent.
