Effects of elicitation on the production of Lycopene in callus culture of Barringtonia racemosa.

This study was initiated to investigate the impacts of elicitor concentration on the lycopene synthesis and growth of Barringtonia racemosa callus. Among two different elicitors tested, yeast extract and casein hydrolysate, casein hydrolysate at 10 mg/L (w/v) was found the best in increasing the lycopene production in callus cultures. The addition of yeast extract did not show an influence on cell growth as on lycopene production. These results suggest that the addition of an elicitor to callus cultures of B.racemosa could stimulate lycopene production.
