The purpose of this study was to develop a transgenic tomato with hypotriglyceridemic action. Diets rich in the peptide sequence Leu-Val-Val-Tyr-Pro-Try are known to effectively lower triglyceride levels in blood. Therefore, in the current study, using overlapping PCR, a modified ammonium transporter 1 (Amt1) gene of tomato that contains different copies of the hypotriglyceridemic peptide without altering the original protein configuration was synthesized. The reconstructed Amt1 gene under the regulation of the 35S cauliflower mosaic virus promoter was transferred into tomato plants by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. RT-PCR and Western blot analysis further validated the successful transformtion and the expression of the Amt1 protein in transgenic tomato plants. The hypotriglyceridemic functions of the transgenic tomato were therefore evaluated and described. Log in to add this item to your schedule
