Plant-Pathogen Interactions Sasaki, Izumi [1], Tsukahara, Keita [2]. The beta-glucosidase of Orobanche minor. Broomrapes (Orobanche spp.) are root holoparasites and devastate agricultural crops, especially legumes. Those parasites rely on their host for nutrients and water, and their infestation occurs underground, they can cause enormous damage before they appear above ground. In a previous report, we revealed that beta-glucosidases(BGA) play an important role in the infection to host plants. Therefore, this enzyme purified and characterized. In this report, we inhibited and regulated this enzyme by its inhibitors and RNAi, to study the infection mechanism caused by the BGA. The RNAi suppressed the BGA gene expression in the germinating seeding of O. minor. On the other hand, inhibitors of BGA interfered activities both in the O. minor and host plant. The inhibitors and RNAi prevented seed germination and haustrium formation. Log in to add this item to your schedule
