Molecular Cloning and characterization of FT gene in Phalaenopsis bellina.

Phalaenopsis is among the most prized orchids internationally known for its attractive flowers. Flowering in Phalaenopsis spp. is mostly affected by photoperiod and temperature. Since the study of flowering in Arabidopsis is well known that photoperiod- and temperature-regulated pathways converge on the molecular level, in this research we have selected Phalaenopsis bellina (P. bellina), which blooms in early summer, and we successfully clone FT gene according to the gene homology. By detection of the expression of FT genes in different seasons and in different parts of the plant, we come to know that the molecular mechanism of flowering in Phalaenopsis bellina is similar to Arabidopsis and different from rice.
