Systematics Section / ASPT Sinno Saoud, Nada [1], Al-Zein, Mohammad [2]. Historic Collections at the Post Herbarium (BEI), Lebanon. The Post Herbarium (BEI) at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, houses one of the largest and oldest plant collections in the Middle East. Specimens collected by eminent as well as obscure late nineteenth and early twentieth century European and North American botanists, in addition to George Edward Post’s collections, which formed the basis of his Flora of Syria, Palestine and Sinai, the first modern flora of the Levant, comprise the herbarium. We call attention to collections of historic value at the herbarium, including, in addition to Post’s collection, the Dodge fern collection, the bryophyte collection from Hawaii and Sri Lanka, the economic botany collection as well as specimens collected by prominent European botanists such as G. V. Aznavour, C. I. Blanche, J. E. Dinsmore, M. Gandoger and G. A. Schweinfurth. Collections from Eastern North America, particularly the Reverend W. P. Alcott collection as well as specimens obtained by exchange with the Horace Mann Jr., will also be emphasized.
