Variability of three regional heaps of tejocote germplasm from central and southern Mexico. Tejocote (Crataegus spp.) is a fruit tree located in almost all Mexican territory, 13 species are reported for the north and center zones and 2 or more species can exist in southern Mexico. Accessions of this genus are safeguarded in the Germplasm Bank of Tejocote of the Autonomous University of Chapingo, mainly from three regional heaps: state of Puebla, Mexico and Chiapas. They are morphologically characterized by leaves from different shoot types, flowers and fruit. It was pretended to know the variability that each one of the regional heaps have to compare them and to know if regional heaps are different genetic heaps; all this by multivariate statistical methods. The heaps present a very low variability intra-heap, for this reason it is not considered important. The heap from Chiapas presents statistically significant differences, as a result, this genetic heap is considered as different, while the heaps from Puebla and the State of Mexico only differ in 22.79%, so a single genetic heap is considered. The most discriminate variables were the leaves.
