Ranunculales - a Basal Eudicot Perspective of Angiosperm Evolution

Gleissberg, Stefan [1].

Ranunculales - a basal eudicot perspective of angiosperm evolution.

Basal eudicots, and particularly Ranunculales, have in recent years attracted a number of researchers interested in development and evolution. Ranunculales are recognized as the basal-most eudicot clade, and are therefore crucial for understanding the origin of differences in developmental regulation between basal angiosoperms and the huge eudicot clade. At the same time, this group exhibits in itself unique patterns of morphological and biochemical diversity, making it particularly suitable to study the genetic basis of a range of features. This symposium brings together some of the growing number of researchers that choose Ranunculales for their morphological, developmental, and genetic studies in order to promote research synergy and cooperation. Topics to be addressed in this session include insights into morphological and biochemical diversity patterns, and efforts to establish model species.
